Having inherited Rose Cottage, with its stables, on the coast of North Norfolk from her great-aunt, Louise and her husband Gary decide to leave London for a life in the country. Fourteen-year-old neighbour, Sarah, and Louise soon become firm friends through their love of horses.

Having discovered that her great aunt had an Irish Draught stud farm, Louise, decides to buy back the horses, and reopen it. Heroine Sarah joins in the search. Their only clue is in a painting. In their search they are met with one mystery, intrigue and adventure after another.
